Gartner Names Nuance Worldwide Speech Recognition Software Market Share Leader
Nuance announced that Gartner has named Nuance the worldwide speech software market share leader in its latest report, Speech Recognition Telephony Software: Worldwide, 2002-2007. The Gartner report identified Nuance as the leader in all key global speech recognition telephony software market categories: number of ports of software shipped, ports market share, number of systems shipped and systems market share.

According to the report, Nuance shipped 36 percent of all speech software ports worldwide in 2002, more than 1.5 times that of the company's next closest competitor. The number of software ports sold is an important speech industry metric because it is directly related to the volume of callers that access a voice automation system, the experience of the vendor, and the accuracy and automation rates these systems can achieve.
The Gartner data also shows Nuance's global leadership in the number of deployed speech recognition telephony software systems (27.2 percent of the total systems market). According to the Gartner data, the average Nuance system is roughly 40 percent larger than the next closest competitor, in terms of ports and the call volume handled. This can be attributed to the company's many large-scale, mission-critical speech implementations at telecommunications carriers and enterprises around the world.
The report indicated Gartner's belief that the speech recognition market is poised for growth, with software license revenues projected to reach more than $258 million in 2007. Call center and business portal self-service applications are the largest segments for sales and growth in the speech recognition telephony software markets, accounting for 76 percent of all shipments worldwide.
