Racing codes demand rethink on betting tax
Nov 03, 2008 (The Age - ABIX via COMTEX) --
The Victorian Government has been asked to demonstrate how Victorian racing will not be disadvantaged by a proposal to reduce parimutuel wagering taxes. Thoroughbred Racehorse Owners Association president, David Moodie, said cutting taxes from Tabcorp revenue by 60% does not guarantee the racing industry its current revenue stream. The tax rate for parimutuel wagering will be cut from 19.11% to 7.6% and from 10.91% to 4.38% for fixed betting, with the savings to replace revenue currently derived from poker machines.
