Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has begun the process of certification of its corporate entity as an Air Navigation Service Provider (ANSP) for the country. The agency, it was learnt has set a target of six months for itself to perfect the certification process.
In order to meet the set target and fast track the process, it has set up a Certification Committee and four sub-committees, they are: Air Traffic Management; AIS/Charts and Communication; CNS (Engineering) and Documentation.
This process is in line with the provision of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulation (NCAR) 2006 which empowers the regulatory agency to mandatorily certify all service providers in the industry to ensure strict adherence to approved standard safety practices.
According to competent industry sources, the management of NAMA has engaged the services of an aviation consultant firm-Gold Streak Nigeria, to assist in working out modalities for meeting the NCAA requirements for certification of its facilities such as the TRACON Radar System as well as the certification of the entire agency as air navigation service provider and the quality and job proficiency of its personnel.
The certification processes include the production and submission of essential documents relating to critical navigation facilities to the regulatory authority, the certification of NAMA's Communication, Navigation and Surveillance(CNS) facilities; certification of the agency as air navigation service provider and its laid down procedure for civil/military co-ordination.
Also of note for the certification of NAMA by NCAA are the status of its available facilities, availability of spares for maintenance, the number of personnel available and their job schedule, qualification and training program.
