ASIO forced NBN to dump Huawei

Mar 25, 2012 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Chinese telecommunications equipment maker, Huawei Technologies, has been blocked from supplying Australia's national broadband network because of security concerns. It is thought that NBN Co had internally endorsed Huawei as a supplier. However, in late 2011, the Federal Attorney-General's Department banned Huawei from tendering for contracts, on advice from the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation. It held concerns about cyber attacks coming from China. Huawei has contracts with some other Australian telcos.
