BRIEF: Some C Spire Wireless service restored in South Mississippi (Updated 4 p.m.)

Mar 28, 2012 (The Sun Herald - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- C Spire Wireless spokesman Dave Miller said that service will be restored gradually to South Mississippi customers as crews continue to repair damage to a fiber optic cable between Seminary and Hattiesburg.

Miller said the company has received customer reports of restored service just before 4 p.m.

The damaged cable primarily affected voice service, he said, but there also were reports of customers not being able to text or access data service.

Some customers who visited the C Spire Wireless store in Biloxi earlier today said they were having issues with all service.

"No calls can go out. No calls can come through. No text messaging. No nothing," said customer Brittany Gorsline of Gulfport earlier this afternoon.

Gorsline said her cell phone service stopped working around 10:30 a.m.

Around noon, Miller said crews were working to isolate the location and severity of the cable damage.
