International digital telecommunication meeting opens in Kyrgyzstan
BISHKEK, Mar 30, 2012 (Xinhua via COMTEX) --
An international meeting called "
digital telecommunications development prospects" kicked off in
Kyrgyzstan on Friday.
Over 30 government representatives and experts from seven
countries, including China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Kazakhstan,
Tajikistan, Georgia, the United States gathered in the beautiful
Issyk-Kul lake-side town Cholpon-Ata, discussing the future
development of the terrestrial digital transmission standards and
its industrialization.
The head of the Chinese delegation, deputy director of
Institute of Digital Media Technology of Peking University, Huang
Tiejun, delivered a report at the meeting called "AVS -- the Video
Coding Standard and its industrialization and deployments," which
showed a vivid picture of the Chinese AVS Video Coding Standard's
advantage than other standards such as MPEG-2. Huang's report
received common recognition and praises from the international
experts of the meeting.
Director of the international switching center of Tajikistan's
national telecommunications company Khonboyev Zafar told Xinhua
that Professor Huang and other expert's report is very interesting
and convincing, and he is willing to recommend the Chinese ground
digital transmission technology to Tajikistan.
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU)
Telecommunication Standardization Bureau Director Johnson Malcolm
said the transition of the digital television technology needs
regional countries in close cooperation and communication, which
has proved the importance of this round table meeting.
Currently, the ITU recognized and recommended four digital TV
transmission standards, including the American ATSC, European DVB-
T standard, ISDB-T standard of Japan and Chinese DTMB standard.
Luo Xunfu, chairman of the Supervisory Board of a Chinese
company named National Engineering Laboratory For DTV (Beijing)
said that China's DTMB standard was recognized by ITU as the D
system by the end of 2011. Compared with the other three
standards, China's DTMB standard has obvious advantages -- a more
stable system performance, more information capacity and better
mobile performance.
At present, a number of Asian and African and Latin American
countries, including Laos, Cambodia, Cuba, Ethiopia, have adopted
China's DTMB standard.
The two-day meeting is organized by the Kyrgyz National
Communications Agency, and the co-host is the Kyrgyz Digital
Mobile TV company (KDM TV).
