BRIEF: Sauk Rapids author to sign 'Esther A.D.' at bookstore

Mar 31, 2012 (St. Cloud Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Lydia Eberhardt of Sauk Rapids will be at Barnes & Noble in St. Cloud 1-3 p.m. today to sign copies of her book "Esther A.D." Eberhardt teaches kindergarten through third grade at Petra Evangelical Lutheran School in Sauk Rapids. Published by Tate Publishing and Enterprises, and released in December, her book is based on the Book of Esther from the Old Testament.

"I really love the story of 'Esther,' so I try to read every version I can find ... but I wondered if it would translate to a modern setting, which might make it more accessible for today's readers," she said about writing her first book.

"Esther A.D." is a modern telling of an ancient tale, set in the future. The story line follows Hannah, who renames herself "Esther" to hide her religious beliefs from an intolerant king. The king chooses her as his new wife. In her new position of power, she can save her people, who are threatened by the king for their belief in God, but faces punishment from her husband.

"I like her bravery; she knew she could possibly die because of her faith, but she was willing to take that risk," said Eberhardt, a Wisconsin native.

The paperback is available at tatepublishing.com, barnsandnoble.com and amazon.com for $8.99.
