BRIEF: [w/ video] DWI suspected in afternoon crash in downtown Santa Fe

Apr 12, 2012 (The Santa Fe New Mexican - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A woman was transported to the hospital and a man was arrested Thursday afternoon in downtown Santa Fe after a suspected DWI crash.

(NOTE: Mobile users click here for video) The crash occurred near the intersection of West Alameda and West Water streets around 2:30 p.m.

New Mexican photographer Luis Sanchez Saturno captured video and photographs of the male driver of a black sedan failing a field sobriety test and being placed in handcuffs before being escorted to the back of a patrol car around 3 p.m. Thursday.

Santa Fe police have not released the name or condition of the woman taken to the hospital or of the man taken into custody. Video taken of his field sobriety test administered by Sgt. Anthony Tapia shows the man clearly stumbling. Whether that is due to intoxication or his condition after being involved in the crash is unknown.

The man drove a small black car and collided with a minivan driven by woman and a young girl witnesses said appeared to be around 7- or 8-years old. After the car hit the minivan, the minivan was forced into a wall at Alpine Builders Supply, 493 W. Water Street.

Check back later for more details on the crash.
