BRIEF: COLLEGE BASEBALL: UTPB faces second-place St. Edward's in Austin

ODESSA, Texas -- The UTPB baseball team opens a Heartland Conference series against St. Edward's with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. today in Austin. The teams conclude the series with a single game at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The Falcons (11-23 overall, 7-17 conference), sixth in the seven-team conference, went 1-2 last weekend at first-place St. Mary's and have lost four of their last five games after winning six in a row. Mike Briseno leads UTPB with a .331 batting average, 10 doubles and 21 runs scored, while Brian Brademan is hitting .323 with a team-high 17 RBIs.
Second-place St. Edward's (23-9, 17-6), which hasn't played a conference game since March 31, won two nonconference games earlier this week. The Hilltoppers beat Incarnate Word 12-4 on Monday and Texas Wesleyan 4-3 on Tuesday.
