Mobile broadband aiding economic expansion

RIYADH, Apr 14, 2012 (Arab News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Speakers at a recent seminar organized by the Saudi Telecommunication Society (STS) stressed the vital role played by the mobile broadband and mobile telecommunication in the economic development, particularly in the developing countries.


The participants in the seminar included Andris Crain, Ala Jarrar and Saad Al-Ajlan, representing Ericsson International.

The event was organized with the support of Zain KSA at Holiday Inn Palace.

This is part of one of the series of lectures for the year arranged by the society.

The seminar also focused on the heavy reliance of smartphones, laptops and tablets on mobile broadband, which is also essential for Internet applications on the mobile phone.

The speakers also discussed the present and future trends in networking, and applications of the mobile broadband in addition to the major current and future challenges it faced.

The speakers pointed out that one of the challenges is the limited availability of the frequency spectrum to service providers.

The speakers also put forward the solutions for such problems.

Zain KSA participated technically in the event, as the company is keen to offer information technology content in line with its efforts to continue its social service.

At the conclusion of the event, STS Chairman Majeed Al-Kanhal distributed shields of appreciation to the Zain KSA for its support to the event.

STS Deputy Chairman Ibrahim Al-Abbas welcomed all engineers and experts in the fields of telecommunications, engineering and IT to be members of the STS, which could be contacted on sts.org.sa.
