Buckaroos still looking for first district win
Apr 11, 2012 (Breckenridge American - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
The Breckenridge Bucks entered Friday's contest against the Cisco Loboes having played one of their best defensive games of the season in the previous game.
Defense was not a friend for the Buckaroo pitching staff as Breckenridge committed double-digit errors that lead to a 13-2 victory for the Loboes.
Cisco benefitted from four errors in the top of the first inning to push four runs across the plate.
Breckenridge junior Nighael Stephens lined a one-out double into left field in the bottom of the first frame. Senior Bradley Dooley knocked a RBI single to cut the deficit to 4-1.
Cisco scored five runs in the top of the fourth inning. The Loboes utilized two hits, two errors and three hit batsmen to account for their runs.
Bucks senior third baseman Chase Roberts knocked in fellow senior Stetson Marin in the bottom half of the fourth inning to make it 9-2 in favor of Cisco.
The Loboes tacked on four more runs in the top of the sixth inning. Breckenridge loaded the bases in the bottom half of the inning and need two runs to avoid the mercy rule.
Freshman catcher Parker Landon pounded a sharply-hit ground ball that would have scored two runs and extended the game, but instead resulted in a game-ending double play.
Marin started on the mound for the Bucks, going 32/3. He allowed seven hits while striking out four.
Sophomore Eli McLane and freshman Omar Aguilar combined to finish the game.
Roberts and Dooley each had two hits for the Bucks offense. Stephens and junior Nathan Turner managed the only other hits for Breckenridge.
The Bucks are back in action at 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 6, when they host the Anson Tigers.
