(RECAST)Serbian police arrests Kosovo war crime suspect

BELGRADE, Apr 14, 2012 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- Serbian police on Saturday arrested a former member of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) on suspicion of war crime against Serbs during the 1998-1999 war, Serbian news agency Tanjug reported.

The suspect identified as Mark Kasneti, a Kosovo Albanian, was arrested by police on a bus in Merdare, Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic said.

Serbian Deputy War Crimes Prosecutor Bruno Vekaric said that Kasneti is charged with a war crime committed against Serb civilians in the village of Krajimirovce in 1998 during his service in the KLA.

Kasneti will be brought before the Belgrade Special Court prosecutor for interrogation.

The case against Kasneti was launched on grounds of a photo obtained by the police and thus established his potential responsibility.

The photo presents Kasneti and three other KLA members abusing two civilians whose hands are tied at the back by wire, Tanjug reported.
