Lawrence Livermore National Security Assigned Patent

ALEXANDRIA, Va., May 9 -- Lawrence Livermore National Security, Livermore, Calif., has been assigned a patent (RE43,365) developed by Brian L. Anderson, Lodi, Calif., Bill W. Colston, San Ramon, Calif., and Christopher J. Elkin, San Ramon, Calif., for an "apparatus for chemical amplification based on fluid partitioning in an immiscible liquid."
The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: "A system for nucleic acid amplification of a sample comprises partitioning the sample into partitioned sections and performing PCR on the partitioned sections of the sample. Another embodiment of the invention provides a system for nucleic acid amplification and detection of a sample comprising partitioning the sample into partitioned sections, performing PCR on the partitioned sections of the sample, and detecting and analyzing the partitioned sections of the sample."
