Meter Data Management

NEW YORK, Sept. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Reportlinker.com announces that a new market research report is available in its catalogue: Meter Data Management http://www.reportlinker.com/p0565323/Meter-Data-Management.html#utm_source=prnewswire&utm_medium=pr&utm_campaign=Software_and_Consulting MDM as a Managed Service, Utility In-house MDM, Smart Grid Data Analytics, Big Data, Smart Metering System of Record, Grid Operations, Financial Management, Customer Engagement, Business Process Re-engineering, Market Dynamics, and Professional Services Meter data management (MDM) captures all metering data from AMI headend systems and creates a clean and complete system of record for that metering data. Some MDM vendors stop there, simply making the data available for use by applications. However, most MDM products include many additional application suites as part of their offering. While incredibly diverse, those MDM applications generally address three areas: better operation of utility grids, better financial management of the utility, and better customer engagement. There is little agreement among MDM vendors as to what constitutes a complete MDM offering. However, there is a consensus that simply capturing and storing smart meter data is not enough to keep MDM vendors in business.

Meanwhile, data analytics have become one of the hottest topics in the smart grid universe. These analytics - correlating data from many sources both internal and external to a utility - can identify trends and opportunities that have never before been seen. But they also intrude into MDM's turf. Metering data from the MDM system is expected to be a key component of those analyses. However, analytics engines may be able to perform many of those same functions that MDM vendors have added to their products, hoping to ensure their survival. The MDM market is rapidly transforming into an analytics-focused market with many factors that might affect the fate of MDM vendors. MDM vendors cannot control all of those factors.

This Pike Research report analyzes the global MDM market as it evolves with and even does battle with the utility data analytics market. The report forecasts revenue for MDM vendors for each year during the period from 2012 through 2020, with separate forecasts for in-house MDM and MDM delivered as a managed service. The narrative includes a detailed analysis of how MDM vendors are coping with the invasion of data analytics vendors, and what utilities are really asking for. The report also discusses how MDM vendors differentiate themselves, how the market segments based upon utility size and region of the world, and how MDM vendors are approaching the delivery of MDM managed services. The report includes detailed profiles of 13 key MDM vendors and 7 systems integrators that are key players in the MDM marketplace.

Key Questions Addressed: How large is the meter data management market opportunity, through 2020 How do in-house and managed services MDM compare in revenue potential What approaches are MDM vendors taking to survive the onslaught from data analytics vendors How are MDM vendors differentiating themselves How are utilities planning to use MDM to improve their operations What are the regional differences in approach to MDM around the globe What are the professional services opportunities for MDM Who needs this report Utilities MDM software vendors and service providers Data analytics vendors Enterprise resource planning (ERP) system vendors Database vendors Systems integrators Professional services firms Investor community Table of Contents 1.
