One ASU Hornet leaves, another joins Raycom game

Dec 17, 2012 (Montgomery Advertiser - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Alabama State's Terren Jones now has a new partner for Montgomery's college all-star football game.

Hornet free safety Kejuan Riley elected to withdraw from the game after receiving a similar offer to play in the East-West Shrine Game in Tampa, Fla., on the same day. School officials said cornerback Saeed Lee received an offer to replace Riley in the inaugural Raycom College Football All-Star Classic at Cramton Bowl on Jan. 19.

"It's a great opportunity to showcase my talents and represent my school," said Lee, a native of Miami. "I'm excited to get another opportunity to do what I love." Lee earned all-conference honors in 2011 after recording five interceptions but struggled through injuries as a senior in 2012. He finished his career with 115 tackles, five interceptions, a pair of sacks and four fumble recoveries.

Riley, of Wetumpka, initially agreed to play in the Raycom game but decided to participate in the East-West game, the nation's oldest college all-star game, after receiving an invitation.

"It's a great feeling knowing I was selected to play in this (East-West) game," Riley said. "I just thank God for this opportunity to showcase my talents against other players in the country. Now, I just have to show the world I belong." Riley and Jones, along with junior punter Bobby Wenzig, were named to the Boxtorow All-American team on Monday, the fourth All-American honor for the players. Jones will remain a participant in the Raycom game, which will be televised on cable on the CBS Sports Network.

"It's an honor and a blessing to represent ASU in such a prestigious event," Jones said. "I thank God, my coaches, and my family as without them, I wouldn't have made it this far." Quarterback Greg Jenkins was selected to play in an all-star game as well. The senior, who graduated recently with a degree in criminal justice, will play in the National Football League Players Association Collegiate Bowl in Carson, Calif.

This past season, Jenkins set career highs in passing yards (1,691), rushing yards (507) and rushing touchdowns (eight) while passing for nine touchdowns.

"It's a blessing and an honor to represent Alabama State and my family," Jenkins said. "This is a great opportunity to perform in front of thousands of fans and also NFL scouts." ___ (c)2012 the Montgomery Advertiser (Montgomery, Ala.)
