Graphical Reporting in Galileo Performance Explorer Creates In-house Alternatives to New Equipment Purchases
(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Malvern, PA (PRWEB) December 18, 2012
Custom dashboard views in Galileo Performance Explorer™, a cloud-based performance monitoring tool developed by the ATS Group, offer deep views into server allocation, performance, and capacity planning. In their very first use by one national auto parts retailer, they identified an alternative to an $86,000 new-equipment investment.
The acquisition was originally planned to supplement the processing power of a 10-way IBM 570 frame where a time critical application appeared to be maxing out CPU capacity. Built-in tools within the retailer’s AIX system indicated that the logical partition (LPAR) running the application was exceeding its CPU entitlement on the frame, leading the retailer and its hosting provider to believe that the CPUs were overloaded.
“Galileo’s color-coded charts make it very easy for clients to visualize both problems and solutions, almost instantly,” says Tim Conley, co-founder and principal partner for the ATS Group. “In this case, Galileo’s analytic capabilities and graphic reports showed that the real problem was an artificially low entitlement threshold for the LPAR in question and that six of the CPUs in the frame were actually unutilized.” Once the client recognized they had excess CPU capacity in-house, they avoided the new investment by redefining LPAR entitlement within the existing infrastructure.
As a cloud-based subscription service, Galileo provides universal access to IT server and storage analysis from any browser window. Hundreds of charts and metrics provide the broadest coverage of key performance criteria in the industry. And for more accurate long-term analysis, it permanently stores data recorded in real time and charted in five-minute increments. Users across service, manufacturing, and retail industries have used Galileo to consolidate performance analysis into one tool, reduce administrative time devoted to that analysis, and prevent unnecessary expenditures.
