Cheers to Your Peers! California Colleges Share Their Festive Holiday Non-Alcoholic Recipes for New Year's Eve

LOS ANGELES --(Business Wire)--

RADD®, the entertainment industry's voice for road safety, issued a call to action this holiday season: "What's the Plan Friends Don't Let Friends Drive Drunk... Do You ®" RADD's message challenges college students throughout California to agree on a plan to get everyone home safely BEFORE they go out to party, and to be a responsible party host.

Campuses are typically quiet over the holiday while students enjoy their winter break as a time to celebrate with friends and loved ones at home. In order for everyone to return safely back to campus after the holidays, RADD suggests the following celebration strategies:

If you're going out:

  • Choose a volunteer designated driver or call a cab before venturing out.
  • Plan ahead to share your safe ride so everyone doesn't arrive in their own car
  • Visit www.collegeisRADD.org to find RADD Rewards bars and restaurants in your neighborhood that honor designated drivers with free rewards

When you're the host:

  • Make sure to serve plenty of food throughout your event
  • Honor designated drivers and non-drinking friends with festive non-alcoholic drinks ("mocktails") that are creative and exciting.

Several of RADD's California college partners and local RADD Rewards hospitality partners agreed to share their favorite mocktail recipes to spark up this year's holiday celebrations.

Here are a few:

  • "Sac State Mango Pina Colada Mocktail", from Cal State Sacramento (Sac State), Sacramento State Student Health & Counseling Services

The California College DUI Awareness Project, produced by RADD in partnership with the University of California Irvine's Health Education Center, is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through federal funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The project brings the RADD Designated Driver Rewards program to 16 college campuses across the state, encouraging the use of designated drivers, cabs and public transportation to avoid driving under the influence

Over 240 RADD establishments (bars/restaurants) throughout California donate incentives and rewards to students and other adults who serve as the designated driver for their friends. Toyota Motor Sports U.S.A. supports the RADD campaign with incentives for on-campus events. Visit www.collegeisRADD.org for more information and the complete list of participating retailers.

Participating campuses are currently grouped into five active regions: Sacramento Region (UC Davis, Sacramento State, University of the Pacific); Los Angeles Region (UCLA, USC, Cal State Northridge); Orange County Region (UC Irvine, Cal State Fullerton, Concordia University); San Diego Region (UC San Diego, University of San Diego, San Diego State, Cal State San Marcos); and the newly added Inland Empire Region (UC, Riverside, Cal State San Bernadino, University of Redlands). The grant also supports expansion to the Bay Area Region this year, with recruitment of partner campuses starting in January.
