Media and Entertainment Companies Jump Start Cloud Adoption With Box

LOS ALTOS, CA, Dec 19, 2012 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- Box today announced that Blue Man Group, Discovery Communications, Electronic Arts, Netflix, NBC Sports, Sony Music and Village Roadshow Entertainment have joined the company's growing roster of media and entertainment customers in the past year, contributing to an impressive 200 percent increase in media and entertainment customers for 2012. These new customers, as well as many other long time Box users in the media and entertainment space such as DreamWorks and Pandora, are using Box to collaborate, manage, and share their critical content and media in the cloud.

"As media and entertainment companies shift away from analog to a world that's more digital and mobile, they need modern technology to more quickly bring content to market," said Whitney Bouck, general manager of enterprise at Box. "Box sits at the center of this transition enabling simple, secure collaboration around the industry's core asset -- its content. Our expertise in the media landscape goes back to our founding, and we're thrilled to be helping a growing group of entertainment enterprises to innovate more quickly." With the explosion of mobile devices, especially tablets and smartphones, media and entertainment companies are now faced with the new challenge of enabling creative and business teams to access content from anywhere while also making sure to protect their digital assets. Box addresses the challenge by providing everyone from studios to music publishers to talent agencies the ability to create and collaborate on the go, distribute data globally, and consume content on mobile devices, while also giving IT the necessary security, visibility and control.

The new media and entertainment customers Box announced today represent a broad and diverse set of use cases leveraging the new digital workflow. For example, Discovery Communications uses Box to access information on mobile devices and manage content securely.

Netflix relies on Box to help with content sharing and collaboration across its distributed workforce and has made Box a key element in its overall IT strategy. With permanent live performance installations in six cities, an ongoing theatrical tour of the U.S.

and Canada, as well as an acclaimed show on Norwegian Cruise Line's "Epic," Blue Man Group depends on Box to share large files quickly and easily in order to communicate with geographically dispersed teams.

"At Blue Man Group, we're always looking to take advantage of cutting edge solutions to stay ahead of the curve," said David Witchell, IT Director at Blue Man Group. "Box helps take our internal operations into a digital world and improves communication across our teams."
