Demand for Big-Data Velocity Drives VoltDB to Success in 2012

BILLERICA, Mass., Feb. 1, 2013 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- VoltDB, today announced that 2012 was a record year for the company in terms of performance and major milestones. Driven by demand for the industry's most advanced high-velocity database, VoltDB closed 2012 with record revenue and new customer wins, as well as a variety of additional corporate achievements.

(Logo: "We had a strong year in 2012 and set the stage for even greater growth in 2013 by building a world-class team to support the demand for the world's first high-velocity database," said VoltDB President and CEO Bruce Reading. "The truth behind big data hype is that, in order to deliver business value, applications need a database that can ingest, analyze and act on massive volumes of data in as close to real time as possible. VoltDB is the first to solve this problem by narrowing the ingestion-to-decision gap from minutes, or even hours, to milliseconds." Corporate momentum: Fueled by rapid customer growth and a $5.7 Million round of venture capital funding closed in August 2012, the company has greatly enhanced its business operations by expanding its executive team, establishing a West Coast office and launching a partner program. CEO Bruce Reading joined the company in early 2012 and was followed by industry veterans Mark Hydar, vice president of market technology and strategy, and Eric Sansonetti, vice president of business partnerships.

Hydar joined VoltDB from Yahoo! to build out the company's West Coast office in Santa Clara, Calif. Sansonetti joined VoltDB from VidSys, Inc., to spearhead the company's partner program.

Customer momentum: Total customer accounts grew by greater than 1000 percent in 2012 and total customer bookings grew at an even faster rate year over year. VoltDB's customers include marquee enterprises such as AOL, Booyah, Bursa Malaysia, Cowen Group, Pinger, Quality Health, Sakura Internet, Shopzilla, SignMeUP, Social Game Universe, Yahoo! and Yellowhammer.

Product and technology momentum: In preparation for its January 2013 commercial launch, the company announced in November the beta version of VoltDB v3.0 to its open source community. The commercial offering was recently released to market earlier this month. With significant technology enhancements in the newly-released version, VoltDB is furthering its claim as the leading high-velocity OLTP database for big data applications.

"By solving the data velocity challenge, we are enabling a new class of applications able to perform analytics and decisioning on massive amounts of data in real-time," continued Reading. "It is clear that the business value that we enable was the key to our market adoption and success in 2012 and we are optimistic that we can accelerate our success in 2013." About VoltDB: VoltDB provides a fully durable, in-memory relational database that combines high-velocity data ingestion and real-time data analytics and decisioning to enable organizations to unleash a new generation of big data applications that deliver unprecedented business value. Organizations in markets ranging from financial services and Web media, to public utilities and national defense, use VoltDB to narrow the "ingestion-to-decision" gap from minutes, or even hours, to milliseconds. Founded by database legend Dr. Michael Stonebraker, VoltDB is privately held with offices in Billerica, Mass. and Santa Clara, Calif.
