Telecommuting Jobs Continue to Grow Despite Yahoo's Ban, According to Latest FlexJobs Numbers

Boulder, CO, Mar 05, 2013 (PRWeb.com via COMTEX) -- Despite Yahoo's controversial decision to ban telecommuting for its employees as widely reported in the press, including on Forbes based on an internal memo that was leaked, remote jobs and other positions that support workplace flexibility continued to see growth in February, according to the latest Flexible Jobs Index (FJI) monthly report. The career fields with the largest increases in available flexible jobs last month, which include telecommuting, freelance, and part-time jobs, were: Consulting: up 48.21% Entertainment & Media: up 32.71% HR Recruiting: up 24.03% Writing: up 21.34% Computer IT: up 11.96% Telecommuting jobs were in the news last week after a memo announcing Yahoo's decision to end its telecommuting program for employees was leaked to the press. FlexJobs CEO Sara Sutton Fell sees why the move was poorly received by many.

"Jobs that can be done at home provide immense benefits for both employers and employees, and we're happy to see that, regardless of one major company's decision, the vast majority of employers are still interested in offering telecommuting jobs," said Fell.

The top industries for flexible jobs continue to hold strong month-to-month and include: 1. Medical & Health 2. Customer Service 3. Administrative 4. Sales 5. Education & Training 6. Computer & IT "The variety found in these top industries for flexible jobs shows a broad spectrum of support for work-life balance through arrangements like telecommuting. Yahoo might be interested to know that, out of the 50 industries we track, Computer & IT consistently ranks in the top ten for offering flexible jobs. Smart employers know that these options help keep them competitive," Fell added. "As we follow the numbers every month, we see that the availability of such jobs will continue to grow well into the future." The ongoing Flexible Job Index report tracks the availability and variety in the employment market for telecommuting, part-time, and other flexible jobs, and provides reliable data on top career fields that offer work flexibility. Data includes positions listed on the site directly by employers as well as jobs found by FlexJobs' trained staff of researchers who scour hundreds of online sources, including industry blogs, employer websites, job boards, job feeds, and more. Only professional jobs that can both be confirmed as legitimate and as having some kind of work flexibility (telecommuting, part-time or flexible schedule, or freelance contracts) are included in FlexJobs' job database.
