Promoting Regional and Global Trade and Product Safety IEC Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Eurasian Economic Commission

(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Geneva, Switzerland (PRWEB UK) 6 November 2013 The cooperation agreement is also intended to eliminate excessive administrative regulation in the trade of electrotechnical products, facilitating for example the acceptance of certificates issued by the IEC Conformity Assessment Systems.

Currently all EEC member states are also members of the IEC. As part of this agreement, EEC is planning to send experts in coordination with the IEC National Committees to participate in IEC work. The aim is to stimulate the exchange of scientific and technological information to facilitate the establishment of requirements of electrotechnical products and guide relevant technical regulation.

Commenting on the event Valery Koreshkov said: “The aim of the cooperation is to increase the competitiveness and safety of electrotechnical products, reduce technical barriers and eliminate excessive administrative regulation in trade of electrotechnical products.

The Memorandum intends to promote further harmonization of the interstate standards (GOSTs) and the national standards of the EEC member states with IEC International Standards.

Frans Vreeswijk underlined: “This cooperation agreement has the potential to become an important tool for the region to further stimulate industrial development, grow international trade and simplify access to global markets.” With the MoU the IEC also hopes to increase awareness by regional industry and academia and grow active participation in its standardization and conformity assessment work.

About the EEC The Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) is a single permanent regulatory body of the Customs Union of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia and the Single Economic Space of the Eurasian Economic Community. The main task of the EEC is to establish economic and technical conditions for the operation and development of its members. The EEC is based on the «the Eurasian Economic Commission» and «Eurasian Economic Commission Regulation» Agreement signed on November 18 2011. http://www.eurasiancommission.org About the IEC The IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) brings together 165 countries, and over 13 000 experts who cooperate on the global IEC platform to ensure that products work everywhere safely with each other. The IEC is the world's leading organization that prepares and publishes globally relevant International Standards for the whole energy chain, including all electrical, electronic and related technologies, devices and systems. The IEC also supports all forms of conformity assessment and administers four Conformity Assessment Systems that certify that components, equipment and systems used in homes, offices, healthcare facilities, public spaces, transportation, manufacturing, explosive environments and energy generation conform to them.

IEC work covers a vast range of technologies: power generation (including all renewable energy sources), transmission, distribution, Smart Grid & Smart Cities, batteries, home appliances, office and medical equipment, all public and private transportation, semiconductors, fibre optics, nanotechnology, multimedia, information technology, and more. It also addresses safety, EMC, performance and the environment. http://www.iec.ch Read the full story at http://www.prweb.com/releases/2013/11/prweb11302818.htm (c) 2013 PRWEB.COM Newswire
