TELUS Deploys GENBAND to Serve Canadian Business Customers

TELUS will deploy GENBAND’s A2 Converged Application Server across its Canadian network to provide business customers with the next-generation of voice, unified communications (UC) and collaboration services.

TELUS is currently using GENBAND’s (News - Alert) C20 Converged Softswitch across its network. A combination of GENBAND’s A2 and C20 enables TELUS to deliver advanced IP capabilities while simultaneously supporting legacy Centrex and Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) equipment.

This new agreement between the two companies will enable customers to maximize the value of their existing telephony investments and migrate their network to IP in a phased approach.

Also, TDM business users will be able to enjoy advanced IP services without having to switch or replace their existing business line.

For this project, GENBAND’s A2 is being deployed throughout the TELUS (News - Alert) network with multiple C20 softswitches in a centralized configuration. This implementation helps to reduce the cost of deploying Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) services by leveraging the same OSS back-office, operations, administration and management as the C20.

“At TELUS we are committed to providing Canadian businesses with the communication tools to help them optimize their core business,” said Fawad Shaikh, director of TELUS business products and services, in a press release. “GENBAND’s A2 platform allows us to introduce new capabilities to our valued business wireline and wireless customers, such as the extension of hosted voice services to our Microsoft (News - Alert)-powered Unified Communications offering.”

“We are very pleased to support TELUS’ efforts to deliver advanced IP communication services to Canadian businesses of all sizes,” said Pablo Gargiulo, president of Global Sales at GENBAND. “GENBAND’s A2 and C20 softswitch solutions allow TELUS to strengthen its capabilities by integrating telephony and desktop IP applications for their business customers without the burden of purchasing, installing and managing premise-based CPE equipment.”
