NTT America (News - Alert), a Tier-1 global IP network services provider, announced it has participated in AHCIET XXX Reunión de Tráfico Internacional.
David Berrios, director of business development, Latin America, NTT America, a wholly-owned U.S. subsidiary of NTT Communications (News - Alert) (NTT Com), participated in a panel session called “Innovation: New Trends in Wholesale Services.”
During the discussion, Berrios shared his expertise on the emerging telecom industry in Latin America and highlighted the investments NTT America has made in the region to date.
NTT America is committed to making investments in the region. The company has already made huge investments in telecom infrastructure locally that enables Latin America to connect with the rest of the world via a Tier-1 global IP network – and vice versa.
Recently, NTT America in partnership with NTT do Brasil announced it has expanded the reach of its NTT Communications Global IP Network into Latin America with setting up of a global IP network Point of Presence (PoP) in Sao Paulo.
“We have long recognized the value the Latin America market can offer the global economy and are committed to serving the needs of the market,” said Berrios, in a statement. “NTT America’s in-depth understanding of the markets’ needs will enable us to better establish a cost-effective model for seamless connectivity in Latin America.”
The main challenge for wholesale service providers in Latin America is the high cost of undersea cabling. There are several tactics and technologies that can help offset these costs. Some of them include mitigating Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks to ensure valuable traffic is being distributed overseas, increasing the prevalence of local Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) to help offset network costs and leveraging new technologies such as 100GigE to increase network efficiencies.
Recently, NTT America announced that it deployed SecureCloud from Trend Micro (News - Alert) to offer data protection for those who are making use of NTT America’s private cloud computing platform.
