Rural Area Health Education Center (R-AHEC) will use a high-speed IP-network from PAETEC (News
- Alert) for the Western New York Rural Broadband Healthcare Network (WNYRBHN).
PAETEC offers a comprehensive suite of IP, voice, data, and Internet services, as well as enterprise communications management software, network security solutions, CPE, and managed services.
The company is serving 38 facilities with advanced Internet and MPLS-based VPN over its fiber optic network.
The Western New York Rural Broadband Healthcare Network project is part of a 60-month $6 million contract, notes PAETEC.
“We believe this partnership with R-AHEC is a perfect fit and leverages PAETEC’s broad network and customer-focused support team,” said Kevin Errity, president of PAETEC’s East Region. “Although every network is unique, we have over a decade of experience with large-scale, multi-location networks such as R-AHEC.”
Western New York Rural Area Health Education Center (R-AHEC) is a non-profit organization, serving a 12-county region with a mission "to improve health and healthcare through education."
“After a bid-review committee carefully and extensively reviewed all the bids we received, we ultimately selected PAETEC for its experience with complex networks such as ours, its network quality, and the overall value that the company’s proposal delivered,” said Kenneth L. Oakley, PhD, FACHE, and CEO of R-AHEC.
The IP-based WNY RHBN network has been designed to provide each partner facility a minimum of 10 Megabits per second (Mbps) bandwidth over a secure enterprise wide-area-network, with Quality of Service (QoS).
This network is expected to bring advanced healthcare services to rural areas including Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC), not-for-profit hospitals, rural health clinics, and post secondary educational institutions.
