The Broadcom (News - Alert) Corporation, a provider of semiconductor solutions supporting wired and wireless communications, announced that it will be unveiling its MoCA 2.0-Integrated Portfolio which also features six new set-top-boxes (STB) and its Hybrid IP Gateway (News - Alert) system-on-a-chip (SOC) offerings at the CES 2012.
An industry first, the MoCA 2.0 integration with the STB SoC, has enabled the company to create an extensive portfolio offering of HD STB along with Hybrid IP Gateway solutions which bring the combined advantages of MoCA 2.0, increased video bandwidth and security as well as reduction in power.
The company's BCM7425 Dual HD Transcoding Gateway STB SoC has been designed to provide dual HD decoding and dual transcoding support which enable simultaneous wireless streaming of video broadcast content over multiple devices. This has further opened up opportunities for advanced solutions with services such as video conferencing as well as enhanced channel change via the FastRTV technology solution from Broadcom.
The MoCA 2.0 offering has operator support from Charter, Cogeco and Cox Communications and Comcast in addition to DIRECTV, DISH Network, Time Warner (News - Alert) Cable, Rogers Communications Inc., as well as FiOS services from Verizon.
The 40nm MoCA 2.0-integrated STB and Gateway platforms from Broadcom leverage the capabilities of the company' high performance dual-thread Zephyr (MIPS-based) CPU which offers 3000 DMIPS and advanced processor capability.
Designs feature the BCM7429 Multi-Room HD-DVR STB SoC, the BCM7428 IP HD STB Client SoC, the BCM7425 Dual HD/Dual Transcoding Hybrid Gateway STB SoC as well as the BCM7422 Dual HD Hybrid Gateway STB SoC. Additionally, the designs include Broadcom's BCM3325 Hybrid IP Transcoding Gateway SoC, its BCM3322 Hybrid IP Gateway SoC and its MoCA 2.0 offering which creates a new benchmark in the standard for video distribution across the home by delivering doubly enhanced throughput performance and capacity over the MoCA 1.1. It also offers critical power management functionalities to support low power requirements and delivers increased content protection.
Broadcom's MoCA 2.0 has been designed to deliver enhanced packet error rate to ensure improved service quality levels for operators. It also supports increased integration of a greater number of tuner or demods with advanced STB and gateway devices. Furthermore, MoCA 2.0 enables full interoperability with MoCA 1.0 and 1.1 and ensures complete performance compatibility with MoCA 2.0 nodes.
