Voice Quality Labs Debuts DHP-501 Automatic Handset Positioner

Voice Quality Labs, a company focused on audio quality in communications equipment, has unveiled DHP-501, an automatic handset positioner that offers dynamic positioning of a handset for test purposes.

The company has put forth a major effort in bringing this state of the art equipment clubbed with PC-based control software, to offer dynamic and accurate control over spatial placement. The DHP-501 is made fully programmable, enabling deterministic and repeatable positioning without the need for human intervention.

This unique handset positioner can be controlled to the exact standard handset positions – such as the “Recommended Test Position” or RTP as defined in ITU-T recommendation P.64 or IEEE (News - Alert) 269 – as well as an extensive number of custom test positions.

According to Karim Younes, managing partner at Voice Quality Labs, DHP-501 is the only product that truly addresses the new audio challenges of the mobile phone market.

“Today's handsets boast multiple microphones and advanced audio features, and it is no longer sufficient to test audio quality in one fixed position. This is why all major operators and standards bodies are adding test conditions that specifically evaluate audio quality in the multiple different ways in which people use handsets. The DHP-501 is the only positioner that supports these essential test scenarios,” Younes added.

Users even get an option to operate DHP-501 remotely and quietly and this enables advanced testing scenarios, such as acoustic noise cancellation while a handset is in motion.

The company is currently offering the new DHP-501 that is supported by suites of test software and services from VQL. This helps is fitting the DHP-501 into existing test suites currently used by handset developers.  In addition, the new DHP-501 is compatible with Bruel & Kjaer, Head Acoustics and Kemar head and torso mannequins.
