Today, Acme Packet (News - Alert) announced it acquired the IPTEGO company in a $21-million cash deal. IPTEGO's IP communications network management systems offer a variety of services in high demand with users today, and Acme Packet's acquisition will ensure their ability to provide IPTEGO's services under their own roof.
IPTEGO's primary specialties, including fraud prevention and detection, customer experience management, network intelligence and voice and video operations monitoring, are actually just part of the list of reasons that Acme Packet took an interest in them. In fact, Acme Packet had a set of solutions of its own that would dovetail nicely with IPTEGO's offerings, like IPTEGO's real-time intelligence systems, backed by Acme Packet's session delivery network systems.
IPTEGO's Palladion software was also a big plus for Acme Packet, as Acme plans to provide Palladion service as part of their own array of offerings in optimizing networks. Palladion will allow users to watch their own networks for trouble even as far down as the individual session level, which will even allow for the identification and interception of fraud in the network.
Acme Packet expects to offer Palladion not only to IPTEGO's current customers, but also to its own, and even intends to launch a direct sales option.
Further drawing Acme Packet's attentions IPTEGO's way was IPTEGO's robust customer list, top-notch technology and market recognition as an innovator in optimizing networks. In a move that will likely be of great relief to all of IPTEGO's employees, no downsizing is planned as a result, as all of IPTEGO's 28 employees will become Acme Packet employees under the arrangement.
Considering that IPTEGO and Acme Packet share 30 customers, at last report, picking up IPTEGO for its customer list alone may have been a smart enough idea for Acme Packet. Add all of IPTEGO's other offerings – especially that Palladion software – and the move makes so much sense it's kind of a wonder Acme Packet didn't do it sooner. Acme Packet and current IPTEGO customers will likely see even better service in the near future as a result.
