VirnetX Enters Agreement with Mitel

As the number of online threats is increasing every day, concerns for enhanced Internet security are increasing and new solutions are being developed to help enterprise and domestic users enjoy better online security.

VirnetX (News - Alert) Holding Corporation, a provider of Internet security software and technology solutions, has entered a patent license agreement with Mitel (News - Alert), a company that offers business communications and collaboration software and services.


According to the new agreement, VirnetX will license some of its patents to Mitel against a one-time payment and an ongoing reasonable royalty for all future sales through the expiration of the licensed patents.

The patented technologies of VirnetX for 4G LTE (News - Alert) security comprise of a secure domain name registry and GABRIEL Connection Technology, which help enterprises establish secure communications so that a secure environment for real-time communication applications such as instant messaging, VoIP, smartphones, eReaders and video conferencing can be developed. Patent portfolio of the company features 20 U.S. and 26 international patents, with more than 100 patent applications pending at present.

Mitel offers a single cloud-ready software stream that comprises of a powerful suite of advanced communications and collaboration products. Leveraging these solutions, enterprises can deploy best-of-breed solutions on any network without having to bank upon walled garden architectures. The Freedom architecture offers a flexible platform to its customers that can be suitable in the dynamic work environment of today.

“We are pleased to have come to an agreement with Mitel on terms consistent with our VirnetX IP Licensing program,” commented Kendall Larsen, chief executive officer and chairman at VirnetX Inc.

Further, the new agreement between both the companies also ensures that the patent infringement case brought by VirnetX before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas will be dismissed.

“We are pleased to resolve this matter with VirnetX at this early juncture and on terms that we are happy with,” said Steve Spooner, chief financial officer at Mitel.

In May 2012, VirnetX Holding Corporation agreed to license some of its patents to Aastra (News - Alert) USA, Inc., a company at the forefront of the enterprise communication market. This happened after VirnetX inked an exclusive patent license agreement with Aastra.
