ELIN Gateway Certification Awarded to Network Equipment Technologies' UX Series

Network Equipment Technologies (NET (News - Alert)), a provider of enterprise-class networking solutions, stated that its UX Series was presented with an ELIN (Emergency Location Identification Number) gateway certification for Microsoft (News - Alert) Lync 2010. The certification was granted after the UX series successfully passed as an ELIN gateway for those installing E-911 solution with Lync 2010.

Enhanced 911 (E911), an improvement over basic 911, is faster and more reliable as it makes the 911 systems to systematically furnish the caller’s info to the emergency responder. The info provided should be accurate in order to facilitate efficient emergency response.

Emergency Location Identification Number (ELIN)-capable gateways are stated to be an alternative to a SIP trunk connection to a certified E9-1-1 service provider. ELIN gateways support ISDN or Centralized Automatic Message Accounting (CAMA) connectivity to public switched telephone network (PSTN)-based E9-1-1 services.

Service providers that cannot handle the Lync relayed information for E911 or comply with the E911 requirements need enterprises to deploy an ELIN gateway to deliver the necessary location information to the emergency responder.

“We are proud to receive the ELIN gateway certification for Microsoft Lync 2010. As ELIN gateways, both UX1000 and UX2000 can translate the location information received from Lync endpoints to an ELIN,” commented Kevin Isacks, chief development officer at NET. “The translation can be granular to the floor level within a building or even to a zone within a floor, depending upon how the enterprise wants to define their ERLs.”

NET explained that its UX (Unified Exchange) Series is a modular 1U system purpose-built for Microsoft Lync unified communications, enterprise session border controller and multi-service business gateway applications. The multi-function mediation platform reduces both capital and operational expenses by eliminating the need to purchase a router, PSTN gateway, SBC and application server.

NET’s UX series can also be deployed as an ELIN gateway for emergency services support around the globe.
