Enterprise Phone Market Struggling but Looking to Make a Comeback

By Contributing Writer

The second quarter sales reports are in, when it comes to business class phone services and who has the best market share according to industry analyst Infonetics? The preliminary returns look to be quite positive when it comes to enterprise phones and IP PBX, especially when talking about sales figures in North and Latin America. That does not mean that the report was all sweetness and light for the enterprise phone community as the report did illustrate that globally the IP PBX market had actually dropped a bit. Still the numbers in the Americas were enough to foster some optimism that situations could improve.

The report illustrates that while sales have dropped in the PBX market overall, sales in North America were up five percent from the first quarter and were up 6.4-percent from the second quarter of 2011.

Diane Myers, principal analyst for VoIP and IMS at Infonetics Research noted that, “Latin America continues to be a small beacon of light as economies in the region experience growth and new business creation." Myers did couch her optimism with some stark realism when it came to Europe and the continuing financial problems there. "While we still expect 2012 to eke out some growth compared to 2011, we have lowered our forecast slightly due to continued weakness in Europe, where many businesses continue to push off spending in an area where existing telephony solutions still get the job don," she said.

In total, the enterprise PBX system saw a slip of 2.6-percent from the previous quarter and a fall of 1.4-percent from the same quarter of the previous year. While the market in general struggled a bit, Cisco only continued to gobble up market share and now has more than 25-percent of the entire global revenue in this market. Microsoft, Samsung, ShoreTel, and Mitel all had great quarters despite the market as a whole trudging forward. All four companies saw double digit revenue growth, also signaling that better times may lie ahead.
