Windstream Receives Market Share Leadership Recognition from Frost & Sullivan

By SIP Trunking Report Contributing Writer

Windstream, a provider of advanced network communications, was recently honored by Frost & Sullivan with the 2012 North American Frost & Sullivan Award for Market Share Leadership in the VoIP access and SIP trunking services market.

The company's portfolio of VoIP access and SIP trunking services were apparently strong enough to land it a dominant 22.1-percent share of the market based on revenue.

This is based on data collected by Frost & Sullivan's recent analysis of the VoIP access and SIP trunking services market. Because this market was found to be an extremely tough one due to its rapid expansion and heavy competition, resulting in falling prices and reduced profit margins, Windstream's success is all the more impressive.

Windstream's experience with acquisitions has allowed it to become exceptional at choosing acquisition targets, while allowing it to integrate acquisitions' products into its own offerings successfully. As such, the acquisition of PAETEC is cited as a major reason for Windstream's success this year as it allowed the company to secure a larger footprint, while combining two major players in the North American market.

Most importantly, the addition of the Allworx IP PBX platform to Windstream's portfolio provided its customers with a third option aside from hosted IP telephony and unified communications services: managed on-premises IP telephony.

"These three options align very well with Windstream's go-to-market strategy of selling customers on holistic UC solutions, rather than disparate services, which is the strategy employed by most of its competitors," Frost & Sullivan industry analyst Michael Brandenburg, said in a statement.

As such, Windstream was able to appeal to the enterprise with Allworx and its hosted IP telephony solution, while also catering to the small and mid-sized business market with a feature-rich alternative to standard phone lines.

Windstream also recently announced its intentions to expand its nationwide network of data centers with the construction of a new data center in Nashville, Tennessee. The center is scheduled to open in 2013 and is built to handle increased demand for data center and managed services.
