Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is proving beneficial to small enterprises. VoIP is based on Internet Protocol that uses unlicensed spectrum, so it does not require traditional communications channels to send voice or data signals.

There are several applications for VoIP. They are used not only in voice and data communications, but also in other applications like enterprise faxing, video conferencing, VoIP call centers and more.

One of the latest such applications of VoIP is MBX IP 2.0 from Session Initiation Vertical Communications (News - Alert), a provider of business communications solutions.

MBX IP 2.0 follows the launch of MBX IP version 1.7 launched last year with a hotel/motel telephony suite. This latest version comes with a number of advanced features that support both VoIP and several digital technologies for small businesses.

“Vertical is committed to providing its customers with a continually enhanced user experience,” said Rick Dell (News - Alert), chief operating officer for Vertical Communications. “This latest major software release for the MBX IP does just that by incorporating many new tools that will help businesses substantially improve productivity and efficiency.”

The new MBX IP 2.0 also features upgraded contact center functionalities that enable improved voicemail and unified messaging, in addition to delivering  powerful IP security capabilities.  Additionally, the software comes with improved SIP support, enabling users to extend IP services, such as conferencing to desktop phones and other standard SIP telephone endpoints.

According to Francis Rosebush, president of MCM Communications, a Vertical Communications partner, the latest MBX IP will generate new opportunities for vertical partners by offering many attractive features that address core business needs.

Earlier this year, Vertical Communications announced that Fulton Communications was named Vertical's Dealer of the Year for 2012. Headquartered in Norcross, Georgia, Fulton Communications offers a comprehensive array of voice, data and video communications technologies and support services through a network of 19 offices across the United States.
