SPIRIT DSP (News - Alert), a Moscow-based company with a reputation as the biggest provider for VoIP and video over IP engines with more than a billion users in over 100 countries under its umbrella, just announced that Globalroam, a Singapore-based service provider, is now licensed to run SPIRIT's TeamSpirit Voice Engine Mobile product within its own app for iOS and Android (News - Alert).
Globalroam's app will allow users to make phone calls through a broadband connection to other smartphones running its app, or to POTS and mobile lines, in both iOS and Android. So, not only will users be able to call one another, but they'll also gain the ability to call landlines and other cellular phones that can't run the app. SPIRIT's TeamSpirit Voice Engine Mobile was created with the purpose of allowing VoIP providers to do just this. Essentially, it's the backbone that every software-based phone (softphone) application needs. Added to this, Globalroam will be able to offer HD-quality voice transmissions and a service that's more reliable than other services that use yet-to-be-finished open-source products, like Google (News - Alert) WebRTC.
Tan Kum Wah Clarence, CEO of Globalroam, said, “We aim to be the global leader in connecting people across diverse media, and offer our mobile phone users top voice quality to talk to their online friends. GlobalRoam's (News - Alert) patented technology saves costs to people who wish to reach their overseas friends, and adds convenience of contacting their online acquaintances from any location. With SPIRIT's high quality support, we successfully integrated Globalroam Softphone with TeamSpirit Voice Engine Mobile, which works impeccably on popular smartphones and tablets, including Android and iOS, which reach 90 percent of the world's mobile users.”
Because of this new move, it appears that Globalroam will have the upper hand it needs to stand on its own against its competitors and become a valuable service provider in today's mobile market.
