By Jayashree Adkoli, TMCnet Contributing Editor
Ascent Telecom, a provider of voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) software products, solutions and services, announced that its SIP (session initiation protocol) based softphone, EnduraTalk, is now Microsoft Windows Vista compatible.
Ascent said that Microsoft’s (News - Alert) latest operating system (OS), Microsoft Windows Vista, features a lot of security enabled functionalities. Many softphones present in the market today do not work correctly on this Vista OS because, they do not have proper security related features.
With an aim to make the EnduraTalk softphone compatible with Windows Vista, Ascent tailored and tested the softphone successfully. With this, the softphone not only works seamlessly on Vista OS but also on all Windows operating systems.
To make the EnduraTalk softphone compatible with Windows Vista, the user will have to setup the software with one-click by downloading a file less than 2 MB, which can fit for low bandwidth downloading machines as well, said Ascent.
Ascent Telecom said its EnduraTalk is a PC based softphone that leverages on SIP signaling protocol to make calls via IP. It features an intuitive GUI (graphical user interface), which facilitates callers to make VoIP calls with ease. Using this SIP softphone, the caller may dial another softphone or an IP device or any telephone.
Session Initiation Protocol (News - Alert) is a signaling protocol, which is utilized for setting up and tearing down multimedia communication sessions such as voice and video calls - over the Internet.
The EnduraTalk is developed using C++. Integrated within is GIPS’ advanced Voice Engine, thereby offering voice that is virtually unaffected by the nature of internet connectivity. The GIPS’ technology facilitates the softphone with augmented features like adaptive jitter/ buffer, packet loss concealment for voice and video, automatic gain control (AGC) for voice, voice activity detection (VAD), acoustic echo cancellation (AEC), support for speakerphone, and codecs (G.723, G.729, G.711ulaw and G.711alaw) supported.
The combination of the above features along with noise suppression, compatibility with Vista OS, private labeled and workability in all blocked SIP ports - makes the softphone a better choice, said Ascent.
Ascent said its EnduraTalk is intended for service providers like VoIP service providers, hosted/managed platform providers, ITSPs, broadband operators, PC to phone service providers and for all those who intend to gain a high quality softphone.
