Ingate Partners with Codima to Enable Successful VoIP Installations

By Tim Gray, TMCnet Web Editor

Ingate Systems (News - Alert) is partnering with Codima to provide SIP-based VoIP pre-assessment and post-deployment tools from Codima Toolbox that will be combined with Ingate Firewall and Ingate SIParator products to enable VoIP installations.

The vertical offering comes as the market for Unified Communications (News - Alert) (UC) is expanding, and partnerships are being developed to leverage  SIP-based VoIP solutions on the organizational level.

The opportunities are many for companies looking to add and enhance communications through Instant Messaging, presence, conferencing and shared applications. At the same time, the demand  for 27/7 business-critical communications systems is growing.

"The importance of quality of service for the success of a VoIP installation can't be overemphasized. We are very happy to see how well the Codima technology, working with the network itself, completes our own in this respect," said Anders Eriksson, chief executive officer, Ingate Systems.

Ingate is a leading developer of enabling technologies for service providers, IP-PBXs and end-users and secure enterprise SIP communications products with secure SIP trunking, NAT traversal and remote connectivity solutions.

The deal is expected to enable Ingate to provide VoIP readiness to customers with an accurate overview of the network and an in-depth network analysis. The Codima flagship product autoMonitor identifies devices and software installed on a network and draws maps of the topology directly in Microsoft Office Visio in addition to monitoring the network finding the weakest links.

In an article written for TMCnet, Steven Johnson (News - Alert), president at  Ingate Systems, called SIP Trunking the next step in the evolution of enterprise communication. “This service uses Session Initiation Protocol (News - Alert) (SIP) over either the public Internet or dedicated IP connections to make and receive phone calls, which are converted to the Public Switch Telephony Network (PSTN) for delivery to non-SIP users. The service offers enterprises cost savings through the use of a single network for voice and data, optimum use of available bandwidth, lower telephony costs and the opportunity to expand the use of SIP to support its long term promise of Unified Communications. SIP trunks open the door for enterprises to take full advantage of the benefits of SIP beyond the LAN.”

The new solution, a beginning-to-end platform for managing VoIP networks called Codima Toolbox, will add value to the offering, according to the company. Its autoVoIP Traffic Simulator tests if an existing network can carry the new converged technology and the monitoring and troubleshooting tools ensure call quality in daily operation.

In a SIP trunking scenario, the Ingate Firewall and SIParator assure smooth communication between the service provider and the enterprise IP-PBX (News - Alert) by mutually adapting the used SIP flavors (SIP normalization for interoperability). Ingate products utilize a frequently updated Startup Tool with pre-configurations for approved SIP trunking service providers on one side, and for all leading IP-PBXs on the other. The installation of fully secure SIP trunks is thus reduced to a plug-and-play procedure.
The Ingate Firewall or SIParator, installed as the demarcation point of the enterprise toward the Internet, which often is the bandwidth bottleneck, are at an ideal location to provide priority of voice over data. This is performed by the advanced Ingate Quality of Service function, effective both for in- and outbound traffic.

"Codima is at the forefront of VoIP management delivering tools that take the converged technology to the next level. We team up with peers to offer the best possible solutions to the market and we expect the Ingate partnership to enable customers to ensure they have the best possible products when installing VoIP," said Christer Mattsson, chief executive officer of Codima.
