iPass Unveils Open Device Framework

A Redwood Shores, Calif.-based provider of enterprise mobility services has reportedly unveiled the Open Device Framework. The company, iPass Inc., now lets customers and partners leverage the framework to smoothly integrate new 3G devices into the iPassConnect mobility manager software.
Companies no longer have to be stuck with a single carrier contract or device. Through the iPass (News - Alert) Open Device Framework it becomes possible for them to quickly incorporate a new or one-off device.
"Recognizing that mobility is a competitive necessity, IT administrators are looking for a flexible, single control point for managing both spiraling support costs and users' access, device and application demands," said Steven Wastie, senior vice president, marketing, iPass Inc (News - Alert)., in a statement "The iPass Open Device Framework is another step towards iPass providing customers with seamless access to critical assets, at point of need -- regardless of the device or network provider."
The iPass Mobile Office provides users seamless and secure connections to corporate resources through number of technologies including 3G mobile broadband networks, Wi-Fi hotspots, hotel Ethernet and dial-up. Already compatible with 125 devices for 3G networks, iPass Mobile Office is going to integrate 3G devices -- whether embedded, tethered, USB, PC Card or Express -- across multiple models by country, region and technology.
The Open Device Framework is available for Windows XP and Vista operating systems, with Windows 7 support coming soon. It is available to customers on iPassConnect v 3.51 and above.
The company has been helping enterprises and individuals unify the management of remote and mobile connectivity for more than two decades. It has allowed hundreds of Global 2000 companies to create easy-to-use wireless and broadband solutions for their mobile workers, home offices, and branch and retail locations, complete with Web-based management, security validation, and unified billing.
With offices throughout North America, Europe and Asia, iPass boasts a clientele including Ford, Nokia (News - Alert), and Proctor and Gamble. Hundreds of wireless, broadband and dial-up providers in over 165 countries are connected by the iPass global virtual network.
TMCnet recently reported that iPass, Inc. launched an enterprise-configurable Wi-Fi hotspot solution for the Apple (News - Alert) iPhone and iPod touch.
