Home Networking Routers Get Increased Security from D-Link

Router security has reached a new high in terms of protection. Both CAPTCHA and DNSSEC have been incorporated by D-Link (News - Alert) Middle East & Africa to guard against hacking, worms, viruses and other malicious Web attacks. An announcement in this regard has been made by the end-to-end networking solutions provider for consumers, businesses, and service providers, D-Link.

Security to the Internet's Domain Name System or DNS is added by DNS Security Extensions (DNSSEC). The information received from a Domain Name Server is authentic when assured by DNSSEC. DNS is protected from man-in-the-middle and cache poisoning attacks by the security extensions. When DNS data stored on recursive name servers is corrupted by hackers, these attacks can occur. The hackers corrupt the data so that the queries are redirected to malicious sites.

Digital signatures are applied by DNSSEC to DNS data. This helps in authenticating the origin of the data. Also the integrity of the data is verified, as it moves across the Internet. Effective verifications are also provided by DNSSEC to the users. The users can utilize it to verify whether the correct address for the servers is being used by their applications, Web or email.

Worms designed to access a router and diver traffic towards the attacker’s network can be thwarted with CAPTCHA. A challenge-response test, CAPTCHA ensures that a response during a user logon is not computer-generated. Users are required to manually enter a small amount of text displayed in an image. This helps to ensure that the registration is done by a human hand and is not automated.

In a release, Harrison Albert, Director, D-Link Middle East & Africa said, "Unlike other brands, the majority of currently shipping D-Link routers is more difficult to be compromised due to our advanced set of security features. We're excited to be the first in the market to announce we have taken the initiative to implement both CAPTCHA and DNSSEC into our routers, thus providing yet another layer of security, and we'll continue to provide our users with the latest in advanced security technologies."

Internet users can now be protected against web hacking and phishing due to the DNSSEC and CAPTCH initiatives from D-Link.
