Nokia Preinstalls F-Secure Anti-Theft on Symbian 3 Phones

F-Secure, a mobile security provider, announced that Nokia phones will be preinstalled with the F-Secure (News - Alert) Anti-Theft application. The Mobile Security and Anti-Theft applications for mobile phones have become really popular, and will be available for download from Nokia’s (News - Alert) Ovi Store for all Symbian 3 based phones. The Anti-Theft for Mobile application is a part of the F-Secure Mobile Security 6, which offers the complete security package for the phone, and available for both Windows Mobile and Android (News - Alert) platforms. It’s a free stand-alone application and is very effective in protecting the mobile device in case it gets stolen or gets lost by the user.

Zoomerang conducted a survey in Finland, Malaysia, Germany, Poland, United Kingdom, Sweden, and United States, on behalf of F-Secure in May 2010. The report stated that an average of 22 percent of the survey entrants had lost their mobile phones and never recovered them, and 15 percent claim that their mobile phones had been stolen. The F-Secure Mobile Security 6 ensures complete security to the smart phone, in case of theft, or loss, or viruses and malware attack. Potential and harmful websites are identified and are blocked automatically. It also contains the remote GPS locator which will help in locating the phone.

Anti-Theft for Mobile works in a very simple yet effective way. The user needs to define a unique lock code for the phone beforehand. The moment the user feels his phone is either lost or stolen, all he needs to do is send a text message to the phone to lock it, it will stayed locked until the correct password is entered. If the phone is not to be located then the user can delete all their confidential data remotely, they need to again send a text message to their number. Meanwhile if the phone was stolen and the thief tries to change the Sim card, then phone will lock down immediately and the thief’s number will be reported to the user, this feature needs to be activated so it can work automatically in case of theft. The user can also locate their phone by using the Nokia Maps.

In a press release, the VP for the F-Secure Mobile Business Unit, Patrik Sallner, said, "We are proud to have our mobile solutions available for the exciting new Symbian (News - Alert) 3 platform. Nokia's decision to preinstall F-Secure Anti-Theft for Mobile on selected Symbian 3 models makes it possible for end users to prevent sensitive information from falling into the wrong hands."
