Dell, Symantec Expand Partnership to Offer E-mail Security and SaaS Solutions

By Carolyn J Dawson, TMCnet Contributor

Dell Services, a leading developer of innovative technology and business solutions, announced that it has expanded its strategic partnership with Symantec (News - Alert), in order to leverage Symantec’s Hosted Services e-mail security platform as the security engine for its E-mail Management Services (EMS).

EMS is part of the portfolio of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS (News - Alert)) solutions. Symantec’s Hosted Services’ cloud based, state-of-the-art security services will provide e-mail security features with e-mail protection and availability, as well as improved functionality to Dell’s (News - Alert) EMS customers and channel partners. Dell’s EMS SaaS solutions, that is EMS E-mail Continuity and EMS E-mail Archive will be available to Symantec’s channel partners and customers. Dell’s SaaS solutions are easy to launch, reduce deployment costs, and minimize the risk of managing the entire IT operations of the organization. Symantec will now be able to offer an increase in hosted e-mail product solutions for its customers.

Leveraging Symantec’s e-mail security platform, Dell Services will provide expanded security features to new and existing EMS E-mail Security customers and channel partners. This will include Hosted E-mail Anti-Virus and Anti-Spam Capabilities with Proprietary predictive technology and traffic and connection management tools and commercial scanners which will help to identify, slow and reject spam and virus attacks.

The Proprietary predictive technology will help to identify both unknown and new viruses and spam Message track and trace functionality which will allow system administrators to determine e-mail status as delivered, blocked or in queue; Hosted E-mail Image and Content Control provides identification and control of confidential, malicious, or inappropriate inbound or outbound e-mail, it helps to enforce the acceptable use policies of e-mail in order to help reduce the risk of legal action, damage to corporate reputation and data loss; and Hosted E-mail Boundary Encryption Secure ensures that encrypted private e-mail networks safeguard the privacy and integrity of e-mail communications, with the Transport Layer Security (TLS) functionality which encrypts the entire e-mail connection between sender and recipient network boundaries.

In a press release, VP of Services Product Group at Dell Services, Mark Bilger, said, "By combining the individual strengths and expertise of Dell Services and Symantec Hosted Services, we are excited to bring customers and channel partners a best-of-breed portfolio that features robust, industry-leading functionalities. As Dell and Symantec team to bolster state-of-the-art hosted e-mail security, continuity and archiving services, new and existing customers can benefit from heightened protection and expanded hosted offerings."

Senior Vice President of Symantec Hosted Services, Rowan Trollope, added, "This partnership with Dell signifies the strength of both the Symantec Hosted Services and the Dell portfolios and our commitment to cloud-based SaaS services. We are looking forward to working with Dell's customers and partners to bring the benefits of SaaS to more organizations, anticipating continued success across both our global Enterprise and SMB business."
