Narus' Fight against Cyber Intruders Lauded by Homeland Security

By Mini Swamy, TMCnet Contributor

The Government Security News 2010 Homeland Security Award for Best Real-Time Dynamic Network Analysis and Forensics has been awarded to Narus, the leader in real-time traffic intelligence for protecting governments, service providers and enterprises against cyber threats and the risks of doing business in cyber space. The Homeland Security is a network of individuals and organizations dedicated to ensuring the safety of the United States.

The award program recognizes dedicated government officials who have created effective security programs and also acknowledges the dedication and contributions by vendors of IT who have created innovative security products that have protected the country.

"Narus (News - Alert) has consistently proven its innovative technology and commitment to supporting the rapidly evolving cyber security needs of its customers," said Adrian Courtenay, managing partner at GSN, adding that they were proud to honor Narus as a Homeland Security Award winner.

Winners of the Homeland Security Awards were announced Nov. 8, at a gala hosted by GSN and attended by the government's and industry's most visible and influential leaders.

Narus' flagship product, NarusInsight is a traffic intelligence solution, providing real-time identification, patented analytics and mitigation of malicious traffic that intrudes large IP networks.

Using NarusInsight, network and security operators obtain real-time situational awareness of the traffic traversing their networks by seeing and understanding the changing behavior or "dynamic DNA" of the network. They can then use the information to quickly ward of the attacks and optimize network assets.

NarusInsight is a complement to traditional signature-based approaches such as firewalls, malware protection and IPS/IDS systems, and is part of a "holistic" multi-layered approach to protecting valuable network assets and information residing on those networks.

"We're honored to receive recognition from such a well-respected publication as Government Security News. The award offers us an opportunity to highlight our vision of a new model to address cyber security needs," said Greg Oslan (News - Alert), CEO of Narus, in a statement. He added that although technology was a first step to achieve the model, industry had to be encouraged to come together as a whole to address the gaps, and develop new processes that were critical to overcome cyber crime.

Headquartered in Sunnyvale, Calif., with regional offices around the world, .Narus' system protects and manages the largest IP networks in the United States and around the world, and is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing (News - Alert) Company.

In a related news release, Narus, Inc., announced that it has joined the ArcSight (News - Alert) Common Event Format program with the certification of its NarusInsight traffic intelligence system.
