TMC (News - Alert) CEO Rich Tehrani had an opportunity to sit down with Benny Czarny (News - Alert), president and CEO of OPSWAT, Inc. to discuss the company's manageability and anti-virus toolkits and products. The interview was part of TMC's On the Road series in San Jose, CA (News - Alert).
OPSWAT offers software management SDKs, interoperability certification and multiple-engine scanning solutions. The company is dedicated to creating a single, multi-platform software development interface for managing all software applications. OPSWAT's solutions aim to solve complex development problems as well as reduce time and costs for engineering and testing teams.
One of the company's main security applications is the Metascan Antivirus Engine for Windows. The solution offers IT professionals and software engineers an easy means to enhance network security while integrating multiple antivirus scanning technologies and URL filtering into their proprietary solutions.
Because it is a multi-scanning solution, Metascan can deliver optimized anti-malware protection with increased detection rates without a sacrifice in performance. According to Czarny, there are many usage cases for multi-scanning and controlling data flowing to and from an organization is of primary importance.
“One really interesting use case is controlling the flow and then adding our Metascan product to this workflow,” said Czarny. “By adding Metascan to the workflow, you are actually controlling and enforcing much more security to your organization by scanning this binary using many anti-virus engines.”
According to Czarny, every anti-virus engine has unique vulnerabilities. OPSWAT packages between three and 22 different anti-virus applications to create its multi-scanning solutions, with the emphasis on controlling data flow. The solutions are ideal for ISVs, who can use them as they develop and compile code prior to releasing a product. Security experts, threat analyzers and analysts may also benefit from multi-scanning capabilities. Czarny added that the solution can also detect false positives within anti-virus software, which is crucial to determine before a company releases code or an application.
