Infoblox (News - Alert) Inc. announced the availability of the Infoblox-4010, a domain name system (DNS) resolution appliance.
It was revealed that the DNS appliance is capable of offering over five times the performance of legacy solutions. This will help Internet service providers to combat the increasing DNS demands that will result in greater usage of smartphones, tablets and other IP-enabled devices.
Zeus Kerravala (News - Alert), principal analyst with ZK Research and affiliate analyst with the Yankee Group said in a release, “DNS is an essential technology to keeping end users and their smartphones, laptops and businesses connected to the Internet. To address the ever-expanding volume of DNS queries, while boosting reliability and reducing the administrative burden, service providers need a new level of DNS performance and scalability with central management capabilities.”
ISPs use legacy solutions comprising of general-purpose servers running open source software, installed near customer locations for distributing the load and providing rapid DNS query responses. This method however has disadvantages in performance and reliability and is expensive as it consumes more IT administration time. It also requires several servers requiring individual maintenance and upgrades.
Infoblox will be able to overcome such problems besides the hurdles faced by service providers who want to support functions closely tied to DNS, like IPv6, blacklisting and search-error monetization.
Greg Zabek, data domain manager at Bell Canada (News - Alert), Canada’s largest telecommunications company, stated, “We have commenced the transition to the Infoblox DNS product, putting their systems to the test in our new LTE (News - Alert) network. We are seeing opex savings due to the manageability advantages and we are seeing performance improvements due to the capacity of the Infoblox systems.”
Zabek added that the expanding of the Infoblox deployment will support the company’s entire Mobility Network, including HSPA and CDMA, and also help in meeting the growing demands of its user base.
Infoblox’s Grid technology and high availability capabilities and other features make Infoblox-4010 most suitable for service providers. The features includes IPv6 Readiness which is fully equipped to perform in IPv4, IPv6 and dual stack environments with advanced features like DNS64.
Officials added that the DNS Monetization features offer NX domain redirect capabilities, using which service providers can monetize Internet search errors. The DC Power Option and NEBS 3 Compliance meets stringent, standardized power and environmental requirements for deployment in service provider central offices and data center locations.
In other news, Infoblox recently announced the availability of its Infoblox Trinzic Multi-Grid Manager appliance, which gives enterprises and service providers with unprecedented domain name system (DNS) and IP address assignment (DHCP) scalability and segmentation.
