The Working Groups of the Federal Communications Commission’s Communications Security, Reliability and Interoperability Council (CSRIC) now includes three cyber security experts from TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS).

The CSRIC provides recommendations to the FCC (News - Alert) ensuring optimal security, reliability and interoperability of communications systems like telecommunications, media and public safety communications.

The experts from TCS included in CSRIC are: William Wells, Dr. John Linwood Griffin and Rodney Buie. Wells is a technical fellow for delivery systems architecture at TCS. While Griffin is a research fellow, Buie is the vice president for the company’s cyber intelligence group. The architecture and management infrastructure for encapsulated delivery systems is the responsibility of Wells at TCS. While research and engineering programs inside TCS’s cyber security team are driven by Griffin; Buie focuses on cyber security at TCS.

The Secure BGP Deployment Working Group will now include Wells. Inter-domain routing and the Border Gateway (News - Alert) Protocol (BGP) are the focus of this group. The group will also recommend a framework for transition to the implementation of secure versions of BGP.

The Botnet Remediation Working Group will now include Griffin. The spread of botnet infections can be measured and curbed by Internet service providers (ISPs). A set of best practices that could be used voluntarily by ISPs for the same will be identified by this group.

The Network Security Best Practices Working Group will include Buie. Recommendations regarding best practices to ensure the security, reliability and interoperability of communications networks and systems will be examined and made by this group.
