GL Communications Enhances its PacketScan Software

GL Communications (News - Alert), Inc. has released its enhanced PacketScan software, an Ethernet/IP/VoIP Traffic Analyzer.

"PacketScan is a powerful software tool that features real-time capture of Ethernet, IP, VoIP and IP based Video traffic with extensive analysis, using graphs and statistics,” said Karthik Ramalingam Manager of Product Development at GL Communications.

PacketScan can be used for live monitoring of IPv4 and IPv6 networks, collection and segregation of statistics on VoIP calls (H.323, SIP, MGCP, Megaco, T.38, etc.), analysis of conformance to protocol standards for the system under test or observation, graphical presentation and analysis of ladder diagrams of protocols, and monitoring QOS (quality of service) on voice and video calls.

The service can also monitor, report, analyze and capture calls for a theoretically infinite time, limited only by the finite space of a user’s hard disk or network hard drive.

With the enhancements, PacketScan can capture and analyze calls over IP version 6 (IPv6) protocol. It now supports two more codecs GSM-HR (Half Rate) and GSM-EFR (Enhanced Full Rate), as well as MOS Scores for AMR_WB codec (for all 9 modes).

With an added option to Import Wireshark traces (.pcap and .cap) into the Analyzer, wireshark traces can be converted to .HDL (GL's trace format) file and opened in the analyzer for analysis. In addition to providing detail decodes of a FAX call, PacketScan now includes an option to extract Fax images (in TIFF format) from captured fax calls.

The analyzer can also be set to trigger on fax calls and store the extracted fax images in a folder automatically during the capture.

“PacketScan can work with PacketScanWEB a central monitoring system for a comprehensive view of network performance,” Ramalingam added. "It features rich graphics, ladder diagrams, CDRs (Call Data Records) and compatibility with almost every voice CODEC."
