SafeNet (News - Alert), providing information security solutions, announced that CCTV has selected SafeNet’s Digital Rights Management (DRM) solution for providing copyright protection for live and on-demand online video coverage of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games.
CCTV is the national television network in the People’s Republic of China. CCTV.com has been recognized as an official Internet and mobile broadcaster of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It owns exclusive rights for the broadcast of all audio and video content through online and mobile distribution channels in China and Macau.
CCTV has given its commitment to protect the intellectual property of the IOC against any form of piracy. It will be following the China Broadcasting Copyright Protection standard.
“CCTV.com is pleased to partner with SafeNet since June, to undergo a DRM trial evaluation for our 2008 European Soccer Game broadcasting. SafeNet successfully met all security requirements and was therefore selected to protect the Beijing Olympic Games online broadcasting against copyright infringement,” said Wang Wenbin, CEO, CCTV.com.
“The copyright of the Olympic Games is too important to us as it affects the economic interest to the International Olympic Committee, the authorized broadcasting operators and the branding of the Olympic Games. We strongly believe that SafeNet’s DRM solution is reliable and could securely protect the intellectual property for the new media video and voice broadcasting,” added Wenbin.
SafeNet’s portfolio of standards-based client and server-side DRM security solutions will help CCTV.com protect its exclusive copyright of the digital Olympic Games footage.
The DRM security will protect the audio and video content from being recorded and replayed by unofficial distribution channels. The open standards-based DRM solution enables CCTV.com to guarantee stability and security of the online video transmission.
SafeNet has demonstrated its commitment to the development and promotion of open standards-based digital content protection and management technologies through active participation in organizations such as the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA).
“SafeNet is investing in expanding its portfolio of client and server-side DRM solutions, both organically and through acquisitions of companies including, DMDSecure, MediaSentry, and most recently Beep Science,” said Simon Blake-Wilson, managing director, embedded security solutions, SafeNet.
“SafeNet is thrilled to provide CCTV with a complete DRM solution that not only protects their copyright of the Olympic Games, but also demonstrates the capability of our solution to extend OMA 2 DRM from mobile content into online video,” he added.
SafeNet provides security by means of its encryption technologies for protecting communications, intellectual property and digital identities offering products like hardware, software and chips. It caters to organizations like UBS, Nokia, Fujitsu, Hitachi, Bank of America, Adobe, Cisco, Microsoft, Samsung, Texas Instruments (News - Alert), the U.S. Departments of Defense and Homeland Security, the U.S. Internal Revenue Service and others.
