VeriSign's Two-Factor Security Solution Wins Readers' Award
By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributing Editor
VeriSign’s (News - Alert) Identity Protection Authentication Service, a two-factor authentication solution, reportedly has been declared as the winner of the 2008 Best Products and Services Award by “Network Products Guide.”
“Network Products Guide” is a Silicon Valley communications publication focusing on networking and communication products, technologies, case studies and vital information from vendors worldwide. The Best Products and Services Award is given annually to honor products and services that represent rapidly changing needs and interests of end-users of technology worldwide, VeriSign said. There were nominations from all over the world for this year’s Best Products and Services award.
VeriSign Identity Protection Authentication Service is a two-factor authentication solution that combines a username and password with a smart card, token or mobile phone. VIP Authentication Services provides validation for the information, according to VeriSign.
VIP Authentication Service lets a consumer’s identity and transaction information stay within the user system. Only the security code passes anonymously to VeriSign for validation, said VeriSign. This method is faster and more secure, according to VeriSign. Further, it enables VeriSign customers to add a two-factor authentication option to their consumer networks without a costly infrastructure investment.
VIP Authentication Service is deployed on a shared VIP Network. This network allows customers to use a single security device to authenticate themselves across any participating Web site that displays the VIP logo, said VeriSign.
“Increased end-user awareness and ongoing advances in technology are helping shape better products and services,” said Rake Narang, editor-in-chief of the guide. “VIP is bringing improvements in consumer authentication and identity protection online.”
Kerry Loftus of VeriSign said, “For online businesses, trust is essential for success. By adding an extra layer of protection beyond traditional log-ins with two-factor authentication, organizations around the world are preserving the trust they’ve built with their customers. We’re pleased that the VIP Authentication Service has received a 2008 Network Products Guide Reader Trust Award, an honor that reflects the importance of keeping consumers and businesses safe from the reach of fraudsters and identity thieves.”
