CloudShield Supports DNS, SSM Applications on IBM Blade Center PN41Blade
By Shireen Dee, TMCnet Contributing Editor
CloudShield Technologies reportedly has announced that it would support its DNS (Domain Name System) Defender and Subscriber Services Manager applications on the new IBM (News - Alert) BladeCenter PN41 blade.
CloudShield provides infrastructure security solutions to service providers and national governments worldwide, and with its latest move will deliver a comprehensive platform for the protection of networks from attacks while launching new services, managing network bandwidths and mitigating traffic congestion with a single blade.
“We have seen some of the most aggressive DNS attacks occur during the past few months and expect this behavior to continue. Service providers continually strive to improve security and subscriber services by effectively managing the increased demands on network bandwidth,” stated Matt Jones, president and chief executive officer at CloudShield. “Protecting networks, retaining customers and deploying new services are crucial to the success of the industry. Our applications can be flexibly deployed to meet the needs of any carrier infrastructure and help enable today’s converged IP networks.”
CloudShield assists global customers in inspecting, analyzing and controlling their network traffic, securing infrastructure and generating new revenue streams. Its SSM solution can manage network traffic and give carriers an insight into network traffic congestion.
“It is no secret that the telecom industry faces a myriad of challenges today. Fierce competition among service providers is dropping prices, impacting profits and driving carriers to find new revenue streams,” said David Vorhaus, research associate at Yankee Group (News - Alert).
While the DNS Defender application will be run by IBM’s BladeCenter PN41 blade, it is capable of enhancing the network’s performance on a whole. The software also helps carriers save on Capital and Operating Expenditure costs since it does not require firewalls, load balancers and additional servers.
“In order to stay competitive, service providers need to increase revenues from new services offered to customers. New security attack methods and increased network traffic pose a significant challenge to those objectives,” said Jim Pertzborn, vice president of the Telecommunications Industry for IBM Systems and Technology Group. “The IBM BladeCenter PN41 deep-packet inspection blade, combined with CloudShield’s applications, gives service providers the most scalable, feature-rich platform on the market today in order to gain that competitive edge.”
