Seagate's i365 Intros EVault as SaaS Solution in Europe

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Traditional security software and appliance offerings are now giving way to Software-as - Service (SaaS (News - Alert)) and managed services, providing more flexibility to users. Security vendors now shift their strategy towards this line of business by offering conventional solutions as SaaS or managed services.

i365, a Seagate Company formed recently by the re-branding of EVault, MetaLINCS, and Seagate Recovery Services (News - Alert) companies, today announced the launch of their Evault online backup and recovery software as a service (SaaS) and managed service offerings in Europe. The new service gives the option to European companies to choose among software, SaaS or a managed service with EVault technology, the company said.

EVault SaaS and managed service offerings also mark i365’s expansion strategy in Europe. The company is extending its top tier, SAS (News - Alert) 70 Type II, and ISO 9001:2000 certified data protection infrastructure with data centers across Europe — including Luxembourg, and the United Kingdom followed by Germany by end of year, with more to follow in 2009.

Along with its EVault technology, i365 also plans to expand its European sales and customer support organizations and partner network to support both the SaaS and software solutions for data protection.

EVault SaaS and EVault managed service solutions provide automated online backup and recovery services to protect desktop, laptop and server data, without the need of additional capital or IT expenses. This is achieved through EVault DeltaPro technology, which compresses, encrypts and transmits only the new and changed data at the block offsite to one of i365’s secure European data centers where it is further de-duplicated. This process reduces the complexity of data protection and free up resources to be allotted for other business applications.

“The European Storage-as-a-Service market is still in its infancy and is rather fragmented with small local SaaS offerings,” said Carla Arend, program manager, European storage software and services research at IDC (News - Alert), in a statement. “There is no clear leader for the market yet, and it is wide open for a targeted company like i365 to capture early adopter customers.”

Shail Khiyara, senior vice president of the i365 Data Protection business unit of i365, A Seagate Company, said, “Our innovative technology, and exemplary services and support combined with multiple Tier III & IV SAS 70 Type II data centers assist i365 in meeting the stringent data protection and compliance requirements expected by European companies.”
