FireHost Intros New Secure Web Hosting Solutions for SMBs

Dallas, Texas based managed hosting provider and online backup company FireHost, Inc., has launched an enterprise-level secure hosting solutions for SMBs.

The solution has been designed in response to the changing style of Internet security threats. Earlier, companies were challenged with the port vulnerabilities and services exposure and solved these problems with firewalls, which simply blocked access to all unused ports.

Today the nature of threats have changed and now the biggest vulnerability utilizes port 80 and 443, which according to FireHost can’t be blocked as port 80 is required for non-SSL Website traffic and port 443 is require for sites with SSL. It has become imperative for the companies to have application security because hackers are now attacking Websites from the Website themselves and sell the stolen data on the black market.

FireHost officials explain that SQL Injections is the most common attack besides the data theft. A video on FireHost's Blog shows the impact of a SQL Injection that affected BusinessWeek's Website.

Although FireHost believes that developers should secure their Websites and applications as much as possible, it's not reality, noted Chris Drake, FireHost founder in a statement. Having recognized this fact, the company decided to inspect every kilobyte of traffic to and from their customers’ sites and enforce policies as required for their customers and their site visitors’ protection.

FireHost protects their customers from a number of threats such as SQL Injections, Cross Site Scripting, Path Traversal, Bad User Agents, and DOS attacks. The company provides its customers with automated reports for their protected Websites and applications from all the allowed and blocked traffic. As the company also provides continuous Website vulnerability monitoring from within the FireHost network, it ensures the site is getting tested without protection.

According to Ken Richardson, FireHost security engineer, the best way to test vulnerabilities is to attack the Website from within the security zone.

FireHost provides a Hacker Report at no charge for qualified businesses who are concerned that their Website is vulnerable.
