At a current industry even, attendees are being shown a glimpse of Black & Decker’s remote wireless residential access control solutions. The company is showcasing the product’s full range of access control features which are yet to be released. The security solutions will be marketed under the brand names Kwikset and Baldwin.
Black & Decker is a producer of power tools, power tools accessories and security hardware. Their brand names include Baldwin, Kwikset, Weiser Lock, Price Pfister and K2.
Officials said the sneak preview will show the solution’s prowess in true remote locking and unlocking, door lock status notification and automatic security system arming and disarming.
The access control solutions, which have electronic motorized locks, were made for interoperability with home control and security systems. These solutions also include SmartKey, the new technology providing homeowners the ability to re-key locks quickly and easily for improved control and security.
Vice president of Brand Marketing and Business Development in Black & Decker Hardware and Home Improvement, Dave Albert, said their security solution overcame the inefficiency of other security alarms and couldn't recognize whether the door was locked or opened but couldn’t tell whether they are actually securely locked.
Instead, their solution allows residents to check whether their doors are securely locked via the Web and can even lock the doors through the Internet - eliminating the need for anyone to be physically present. The solution can also be accessed using a remote control, mobile phone, security system touch panel and/or secure Web access.
“We are of the mindset that it’s not truly remote access if you can’t lock or unlock your door without a physical person turning the hardware – and that’s what differentiates Black & Decker’s remote and wireless access control solutions in today’s marketplace,” said Albert.
The company says that the system used in the door locking can be combined with other home security and automation systems. This means the door locks can be controlled and while other automation systems in the home are also controlled.
